Closing Docs They Are A-Changin’

It’s your job to get your clients to—and prepare them for—the closing table. It’s our job to keep you current so you can do that with confidence. Please know that effective Oct. 3, the HUD-1 Settlement Statement, Good Faith Estimate, and Truth-In-Lending Disclosure Statement retire. Two new forms take their place:  the Loan Estimate and the Closing Disclosure. As part of its “Know Before You Owe” campaign, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau launched a website we think does the best job at explaining the new forms. The website also details the why behind the changes. Check it out ASAP. And yes, as you likely guessed from the headline, there are a few Bob Dylan fans at IAR. Rock on, REALTORS®.

IAR Lobbying Efforts Get Physical (In Proximity)

One of our main jobs is to “open doors at the capitol for REALTORS®” by “solving political problems before they become your business problems.” On Thursday, Aug. 13, the Indiana Association of REALTORS® closed on the purchase of the Harrison Building at 143 W Market St in downtown Indianapolis. Located at the southeast corner of Market Street and Capitol Avenue, the investment puts your 15,000-plus member state association directly across the street from the Statehouse, just steps from its main entrance.

“It’s fitting that the organization that represents location, now owns a prime location in the Statehouse neighborhood,” said CEO Karl Berron. “Our hope is that the building stands as a symbol of what our industry so strongly advocates for every day—property ownership and vibrant communities—to state policymakers for many years to come.”

  2. Login to Realtor.org. Go to 'My Account' and click 'View/update your email address and subscriptions'.

*NRDS is the National REALTOR® Database System.

Get Involved. Make a Difference. Become a Leader.

The Indiana REALTORS® Leadership Academy is the best way for members to plug into IAR. Network with fellow real estate professionals from all around the state who have similar interests and goals. The year-long program covers team building, effective communication and accounting best practices, just to name a few. While these skills are beneficial in the workplace and aimed at developing REALTOR® leaders, they’ll also transfer to other areas such as volunteer work and charitable fundraising. You have until Friday, Sept. 11 to join the Class of 2016. Apply online today.

Heads Up:  Committee to Consider Licensure of REALTORS®

On Sept. 17, the Indiana Job Creation Committee will review both the Indiana Real Estate Commission, as well as the Indiana Real Estate Appraisal Board, to determine its utility and value of licensing in the real estate industry. IAR member leadership and staff will present before this committee, detailing the industry in Indiana, its current status, and the role that licensure plays. Stay tuned.

FBI Registers For Conference, Have You?

Special Agent Jason Ptacek is set to discuss wire fraud with REALTORS® attending the 2015 IAR Conference & Expo. Specifically, he’s part of the Short Talks portion of the schedule on Sept. 30. Modeled after the popular TED conferences, this afternoon will feature 11-minute presentations on relevant matters to today’s real estate professional. Listen to all of the speakers or just the ones you want. Explore the topics more by taking a “deep dive” with the speakers after their presentation. Leave feeling educated, inspired, and entertained.
