CE Marketplace – Licensing Cycle Wrap-Up

It’s been a month since the end of the licensing cycle, and the dust is starting to settle at CE Marketplace. We hit the ground running January 1st and never looked back. Sure we hit some snags along the way, but that’s to be expected with a new program. Overall, with the input of licensees, educators, and sponsors, CE Marketplace is proving to be a beneficial program for all involved and we’ve learned some things along the way. At the end of the licensing cycle, with less than a year under our belt, numbers look good with over 215 certified courses and 590 sponsored classes which lead to 17,150 certificates of completion being sent to class attendees.

Are you one of the over 6,500 licensees registered with CE Marketplace? If not, registration is ongoing at www.cemarketplace.net where you can view your CE History and record Third Party Credits to help you track your hours in case of an audit by the state. We’ve been told the state is planning to audit 10% of the licensees and audits are already taking place. Register today with CE Marketplace to make sure you are prepared and get a head start on the next licensing cycle! By taking CE Marketplace certified courses means audit protection for you! Click here for instructions on how to get registered.

Renewal grace period ends December 31, 2015. If you are looking for legal CE for renewal, check out the two 1-hour online CE Marketplace certified classes offered by Michigan Realtors® with instructors Brad Ward and Brian Westrin. Click here to register a profile and purchase a video course. Please note the systems are not connected so you will need to create a different username and password than your CE Marketplace login.

For other on-demand options, visit the CE Marketplace Calendar page and click “on-demand” under the class calendar banner. If you find a class you are interested in, click on the Class Code number for more information and how to register.

Legal Lines – Question of the Month

With the help of McClelland & Anderson, we are taking the most recently asked questions from our legal hotline and putting them in E-news. We will be featuring a different question each issue.

QUESTION:
I am a licensed salesperson selling my own home to a friend who is not working through an agent. Should I act as a dual agent or transaction coordinator in this transaction?

ANSWER:
You cannot act as either a dual agent or a transaction coordinator in this transaction. Either role requires you to serve as a "neutral" which you cannot do if you are one of the parties to the transaction. In other words, it would be impossible under these circumstances for you to represent both parties equally. You will need to act as a seller's agent and the buyer will be a customer without a principal/agency relationship.
