Deadline Extended for Legacy Brokers
The Indiana Real Estate Commission (IREC) recently extended the license
renewal deadline for legacy brokers – those who were licensed as a broker on
June 30, 2012 – from June 30 of this year to June 30, 2014. This memo from IAR
explains why the IREC extended the deadline, but how will the extension impact
legacy brokers? In short, legacy brokers must now complete 24 hours of continuing
education (C.E.) prior to the new license renewal deadline of June 30, 2014.
Here is the breakdown:
- 16 C.E. hours of the old curriculum (6 mandatory
and 10 elective hours) taken any time after July 1, 2011 – just as a legacy
broker would have prior to the 2012 license law update and the old license
renewal deadline of June 30, 2013
- 8 C.E. hours of the new curriculum—cannot be
taken before July 1, 2013
RECP is now offering a live, two-day class at a variety of
locations around the state for just $99 to help legacy brokers fulfill their
16-hour C.E. requirement. RECP is also offering this class online/on-demand for
the same price so legacy brokers can learn from any computer anywhere at their
own pace. Visit www.RECP.org or call
1-800-742-4067 for more information and to register.
Beginning July 1, RECP will offer both live and
online/on-demand classes that will help legacy brokers fulfill their additional
8-hour C.E. requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: As a legacy broker, do I really
have to wait until July 1 to complete the additional 8 C.E. hours that came
with my license renewal deadline extension?
A: Yes, but after July 1, RECP can offer a
one-stop C.E. option to legacy brokers. The broker transition course required
of current salesperson licensees will satisfy the 24-hour C.E. requirement that
accompanies the new license renewal deadline. This course must be completed by

NAR Speaks to Sellers on the Fence
The newest ad of NAR’s consumer advertising campaign,
“Satellite Earth,” speaks directly to move-up sellers who may be on the fence,
explaining that buyers are in the market, but given the shortage of homes for
sale in many parts of the country, now may be the right time to think about
selling. Watch and listen here.
