Pocket Cards Unnecessary

We told you in the last newsletter that the state of Indiana was in the process of changing license numbers. All real estate license numbers now begin with RB. Find your new license number here. This news stirred the same question from many members:  is a new pocket card necessary? The answer is no. You no longer need to carry a pocket card, you just need to be able to prove you are licensed. Indiana Real Estate Commission Director Jeanette Langford confirmed this back in April when we interviewed her for an installment of the monthly IAR-RECP video series. In fact, Jeanette suggests printing from the licensing search website (above) or taking a picture to keep on your mobile device. Both options are free.

Leadership Academy Opens Eyes and Amazes

irla quotes

Cory and Sue used their leadership academy experience to successfully campaign for open seats on the IAR Board of Directors. Cory represents Region 1 and Sue represents Region 4. Both are also members of the Board’s Executive Committee. How will you use your IRLA experience? Join the next class to find out. Apply here by August 1.

Tell Us Where Your Market is Headed

We know you have different ways of gauging future activity, sometimes through measurable indicators such as showings or open house traffic, other times through subjective factors like conversations with clients. Taken together, this REALTOR® sentiment is a valuable predictor of future activity. Thus, we invite you to participate in the second Indiana REALTOR® sentiment survey facilitated by researchers at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business. Once a benchmark has been established, IAR will share the summary data with you and use it in the monthly housing data reports. Answer the 13 question quarterly survey here.

FAQ:  What Does Managing Broker Eligible Mean?

You likely used the state of Indiana’s public licensing search recently to check your license status and/or find your new license number. Does your personal record say you are “Managing Broker Eligible”? This simply means that you have met the requirements necessary to serve as the single Managing Broker of a company or a sole proprietorship (with or without licensees). It DOES NOT mean you are the single Managing Broker of a company or sole proprietorship. In order to serve as the single Managing Broker you would need to be designated as such with the Indiana Real Estate Commission. Also, it DOES NOT mean you are a Branch Manager. In order to serve as a Branch Manager, you would need to be designated as such by your Managing Broker with IREC, though these designations are not visible on the state’s public licensing search. However, you need not be “Managing Broker Eligible” to be designated as a Branch Manager. All real estate licensees are now on the same three year license renewal cycle with the same 36 hour continuing education requirement – 12 CE hours must be completed per year. If you are “Managing Broker Eligible”, four of the 12 hours must be dedicated to the necessary business and management skills and legal knowledge needed by a single Managing Broker.

Enrollment Now Open for Pre-licensing Courses

As of July 1, the first step for anyone wanting to start a real estate career in Indiana is to successfully complete a 90 hour pre-licensing Broker course. However, the state will only grant a license to those who are 18 years old and have earned a high school diploma or passed an equivalency exam. RECP has started to schedule live pre-licensing courses at locations around the state. The first courses will begin July 28 in both Bloomington and Indianapolis. RECP’s online/on-demand pre-licensing course will be available early August. Enroll now.

Get a Jump on Annual CE Requirement

As of July 1, all active Indiana real estate licensees are on the same three year license renewal cycle with the same 36 hour continuing education requirement. Curriculum will vary by license type, which has just been finalized by the Indiana Real Estate Commission. Sign up here to be among the first notified when the new CE packages are available from RECP. Twelve CE hours must be completed per year.

Legal Hotline Turns 26

In honor of the Legal Hotline entering its 26th year of service, IAR Senior Staff Counsel Kelly Shonborn, focused her monthly column on how best to use this valued member benefit. Managing Brokers and their designated agents may use the Legal Hotline one of three ways:  317-913-3254 or 1-800-444-5472 phone, 317-842-8494 fax, or online form. Read more about the Hotline here.

RPAC Fundraising In Full Swing

RPAC fundraising season is in full swing in Indiana. Have you joined the efforts of your local REALTOR® association? While we are at 50% of our fair share goal statewide, the $112,000 we've collected this year is from just 13% of the IAR membership. Yet, 100% of the membership benefits when candidates who will work with us to better real estate professions and local markets are elected. See how your local association is progressing toward the October deadline here. Need fundraising assistance? IAR Government Affairs Director Eric Augustus is happy and ready to help. Email Eric today.
