2012 IAR Legislative Conference Recap
REALTORS® Deliver Strong Message
REALTORS® rallied at IAR’s annual Legislative Conference last week in Indianapolis. A heartfelt address by Governor Mitch Daniels kicked off our lobby day. Daniels peppered his remarks with occasional shout outs to individual REALTORS in the audience, whom he called by name. He remarked that IAR, almost more than any other association, has stood with him in promoting some of his major policy issues, namely Major Moves and property tax caps.
The REALTOR® presence was made known at the Statehouse as members made contact with legislators to express support for SB 275 and HB 1102, legislation which updates the Indiana real estate license law. IAR President Charlie Shook briefed members on the legislation, which he said, “aligns our licensing structure with the more modern way that business is actually transacted today.”
The unseasonably beautiful weather in Indianapolis and the backdrop of the upcoming Super Bowl set an exciting stage for this year’s conference. A special thanks goes to our other speakers, Democratic Gubernatorial candidate John Gregg and Republican State Chairman Eric Holcomb, who each delayed their scheduled remarks to allow conference attendees to cheer the New York Giants as they departed our hotel for a morning tour of Lucas Oil Stadium. Politics, football, fellowship, 60-degrees in January—priceless!
