MN REALTOR® Forms and Internet Connection Problems
Since the statewide conversion to Instanet Solutions in October, one question has to do with accessing forms when members are in non-internet areas. In the past, MN REALTOR® members could download a set of the forms in a PDF format to their computer for times they have poor connectivity or no access at all. Although this method did not auto-populate the blanks, the finished product looked better and was more readable than if the member had filled it out longhand.
Unfortunately, the Adobe Reader Extension Policy prohibits distribution to more than 500 unique users. Using PDF files is not an option because the Adobe licensing policy does not allow access for over 500 unique users. MN REALTOR® staff looked into purchasing multiple licenses to cover our membership size of over 16,500 – however Adobe does not allow distribution to more than 500 unique users no matter how many licenses are purchased. Per the licensing policy statement:
“Having more than one licensed copy of Acrobat X Standard, Pro, or Suite does not increase the 500 recipient/respondent limits (i.e. to stack licenses). For example, Company ABC has 1 license of Acrobat X Pro and therefore a limit of 500 recipients/respondents. Company XYZ has 3 licenses of Acrobat X Pro but similarly has a limit of 500 recipients/respondents, not 1500 recipients/respondents.”
We have asked Adobe if our use would fit into their definition scenario and if there is an alternative that would work for our situation.
At the same time, MN REALTORS® has been working with Instanet Solutions to determine whether an offline version of the MN REALTOR® Forms can be made available. However, what Instanet Solutions has found is that very few people use this option because Internet connectivity is so widely available. If MN REALTORS® and Instanet do move forward - individual members would need to pay an additional fee (est. $109-$129 per year) and allow Instanet Solutions access to their PC to download and maintain the software.
We are working with our vendor to find an economical solution for members who may be located in areas where Internet access is not reliable or available. At this time we have not elected to move forward with the non-internet connection option because of set-up costs. Attention: ALL Licensees - DOC Continuing Education Requirements for 2012-13
The MN Department of Commerce is required that ALL residential real estate licensees complete a 7.5 hour continuing education module prior to June 30, 2013. This module consists of two components:
• Contracts; AND
• MN Distressed Properties
Successful completion of BOTH components and a passing grade on the exam for BOTH components, prior to June 30, 2013, is necessary to satisfy the 7.5 hour module. The 7.5 module CANNOT be uploaded to Pulse Portal until both components have been satisfactorily completed with the same provider.
We are working very hard to help our members understand the additional statutory requirement that both components be taken by the SAME PROVIDER in the same format (i.e., either both in a classroom format or both in an online format).
Please note that "same provider" does NOT mean the same instructor or the same location. For example, the Minnesota Association of REALTORS® has seven instructors. Classes we provide taught by any of our seven instructors would meet the requirement. Many local associations and organizations are currently booking us to provide these module components throughout the year in multiple locations throughout the state. You can always see the current schedule of classes we are offering in partnership with local associations by going to our website www.mnrealtor.com, choosing the "MN Education Information" menu item on the top bar, then clicking "MNAR Classes" on the left side bar.
