E-NEWS SPOTLIGHT

CODE OF ETHICS TURNS 100!

The year 2013 marks the centennial of the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice of the National Association of REALTORS®.  The first Code was written before license laws and most other regulations governing real estate existed and was seen as a declaration of the industry’s principles and beliefs.  The Code, a living document that today undergoes annual review and revision, has been called a “golden thread,” uniting those devoted to raising the standards of professionalism and service in real estate.

Check out this short video to see what your fellow REALTORS® think about the Code and its anniversary.  This professional legacy is something we can all be proud of!

PUBLIC POLICY

The Real Estate Impact of 'Fiscal Cliff' Legislation

On Jan. 1, both the U.S. Senate and House passed H.R. 8, legislation to avert the “fiscal cliff.”  The bill was signed into law by President Barack Obama.  Provisions of the new law include an extension of mortgage cancellation relief to Jan. 1, 2014, and an extension of deductions for mortgage insurance premiums for filers making below $110,000 through 2013 — and retroactive coverage for 2012. Learn more about this legislation and how it impacts you as real estate practitioners.
