Federal News In Case You Missed It:

Take Presidential Advisory Group Survey:
NAR President Gary Thomas recently appointed a Presidential Advisory Group (PAG) on Membership Issues and Value focused on commercial practitioners to get a better picture of the services they need and the benefits they want.  All association executives are asked to complete this 5-minute survey to provide feedback on existing services and benefits, barriers to membership, and local association needs.  Thank you for helping the PAG get off to a strong start. Deadline is Thursday, June 13, at 9 a.m., Central Time.

Patent Troll Making Rounds on Multifunction Copiers:   NAR members around the country have been hit with letters demanding payment of a patent licensing fee for sending documents via e-mail from a multifunction copier machine. The companies demanding the fee are linked to a parent company that fits the definition of a patent troll, a company whose business model is based on extracting fees for patents it holds on certain processes. You and your members can learn more about the situation and how to respond in an article and audio podcast prepared by NAR Legal Affairs.

Pending Sales Index at Three-Year High: NAR's forward-looking pending home sales index for April rose 0.3 percent to 106.0 from the previous month, the highest level in three years. "The housing market continues to squeak out gains from already very positive conditions," NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun says. "Pending contracts so far this year easily correspond to higher closed home sales in 2013." Total existing-home sales are expected to rise just over 7 percent to about 5 million this year. Press
