Oregon REALTORS® Preserve Access to Seller Financing

On June 4, 2013, Governor Kitzhaber signed House Bill 2856-Enrolled into law. As a result, individuals now have the ability to offer or negotiate up to 3 mortgages in a 12-month period on residential properties they own without having to obtain a mortgage loan originators license. Compliance with all of the current consumer protection laws found in Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act and Truth in Lending Act are still required and a maximum of 8 loans can be carried at one time.

 

At the request of the Oregon Association of REALTORS®, this legislation successfully navigated the legislative process unanimously.

REALTORS® Protect Property Management Exemption from Construction Contractors Licensing

On June 13, 2013, Governor Kitzhaber signed House Bill 2524-Enrolled into law, which clarifies that a real estate licensee is exempt from a construction contractor’s license while performing work on a property the licensee manages. Originally, this legislation would have repealed the existing exemption and would have required a real estate licensee to get a construction contractor’s license when performing routine maintenance. The Oregon Association of REALTORS® successfully worked to educate legislators to protect the existing exemption for real estate licensees managing property.

Contributions to RPAC are voluntary and are used for political purposes.
