NAR Announces Political Survival Initiative
BOD to Vote May 14th on Proposal, Dues Increase
NAR recently announced an initiative that will be subject to a vote by the full Board of Directors at a May 14th meeting set to take place during the annual Midyear Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo* in Washington, D.C. While many BOD votes come and go unnoticed, this one has garnered much attention because it carries a price tag a $40 dedicated dues increase to take effect in the 2012 budget year.

This will be a difficult sell for NAR in this economic climate, not to mention that it’s a complicated proposal and one that is easy to politicize. IAR hopes you will take the time to learn all you can about the REALTOR® Party Political Survival Initiative. It’s the result of nearly a year of work by a Presidential Advisory Group appointed by 2010 NAR President Vicki Cox Golder. Said PAG was created after a January 2010 U.S. Supreme Court ruling greatly changed political fundraising. That case, Citizens United vs. the Federal Election Commission, essentially allows those in the public policy arena to spend nearly any amount from nearly any source to influence election outcomes and the decision-making process. The RPPSI is designed to ensure that REALTORS® remain a powerful voice at all levels of government.

In addition to learning more, you can also provide feedback at the link above or through Twitter: #rppsi . We hope you do make your opinion known because the real estate industry is facing a number of risks. It will take all of our expertise and best thinking to get us through to better times.

* Please consider joining IAR members on this annual trek to our nation’s capital. We’ll meet with our Congressional delegation, get the latest industry news and have some fun along the way.
