Senate Pushing to Delay Increase in Flood Insurance Premiums

As a result of the Biggert-Waters flood insurance reform that was passed by Congress in 2010, there are expected increases to flood insurance rates for homeowners on the horizon. It has been said that some of these increases could be anywhere from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars to help create a more financially sturdy flood insurance program.

A powerful group of Senators are pushing Congress to delay these flood insurance premium hikes and include such proposals in bills being passed by Congress dealing with the government shutdown. Senator Jeff Merkely (D-OR) is supportive of these proposals and the need for a delay in flood insurance premium increases for homeowners.

We are currently assessing the opportunity to hold a 200 and 300 level class to allow those who want to complete their designation the opportunity to do so. Then, we will look at revamping the GRI program overall to make it more sustainable for OAR to put on going forward.
