100 Year Celebration Kicks Off With Legislative Day on March 4th

Michigan Realtors® will be hosting a Legislative Day and Centennial Celebration on Wednesday, March 4th in Lansing. This is an opportunity for Realtor® members to listen to top legislative state officials speak on a variety of issues not only facing the real estate industry, but the state as a whole.

The day begins with a morning legislative panel made up of members of the House of Representatives, followed by a luncheon recognizing the association and its inception 100 years ago. The program then resumes with an afternoon panel made up of Michigan Senators. Take advantage of an optional State Capitol Tour as well! Realtor® members who have a keen interest in government and legislative affairs will not want to miss this event!

Michigan Realtors® to Lead Continuing Education for State

The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs has awarded a grant in the amount of $199,237 to the Michigan Realtors® for the development and implementation of a Web-based portal that will assist in the tracking of continuing education credit hours for Michigan real estate licensees. The Michigan Realtors®’ goal is to establish a voluntary resource database to support the new self-reporting regulations for real estate salespersons and brokers that ultimately will lead to the timely reporting of continuing education credits. The database will be populated by course attendee data supplied by the course sponsor or instructor and will include an option for licensees to self-report the information as needed.

Legal Lines – Question of the Month

With the help of McClelland & Anderson, we are taking the most recently asked questions from our legal hotline and putting them in E-news. We will be featuring a different question each issue.

The owner of the home I am listing inherited the home from her father. She does not live in the home but legal title is in her name. Does there need to be a seller’s disclosure statement?
YES. While property owned by an estate is exempt under the seller disclosure act so long as the personal representative does not live in the home, once the property has been distributed from the estate to the heir, it is no longer exempt.
