The mild weather out West is bringing an early Spring and, with it, a hot market. As the business climate improves across our state, we are seeing a resurgence in new members entering or reentering our profession. As of the date of this newsletter, our membership is at almost 14,000 REALTORS®, our highest level in almost 8 years. It’s amazing to think of just how much our industry has changed over those 8 years.  READ MORE »

Legislative Update: Session 25% Complete

Your Government Affairs team has been busy representing you at the State Capitol. Having recently passed the measure introduction deadline, we’re currently tracking 455 bills for their potential impact on the real estate industry. Of current note are three areas:

  • HB 2633: Limits development in rural Oregon and in cities located in areas prone to natural disasters – forest fires, tsunamis, earthquakes, landslides, and floods, to name a few.
  • SB 246: Creates a pilot project within the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) for a low-interest loan program for the upgrade, repair, or replacement of septic systems.
  • Implementation of Legal Marijuana: The legislative Joint Committee on Implementing Measure 91 is hard at work figuring out all its implications, including how it will affect real estate. We’re watching this process closely.
