Colin Mullane 2015 OAR President.pngBoard Approves Historic Decision

As the leaves change color, the days get shorter, and the clocks will soon go back an hour, it’s often a great time to plan for the year ahead. Just a few weeks ago, OAR had its Fall Governance Meetings and Convention in Sunriver. This was our most successful event yet since the reintroduction of the conference just 3 years ago. With inspirational presentations and up to 8.5 hours of continuing education covering the most up-to-date and relevant topics for your business, more than 300 Oregon REALTORS® made the first step in preparing for a great 2016. Prior to the Convention, your Board of Directors from across the state voted on a groundbreaking shift for our association. The Board voted to ensure that more REALTORS® in Oregon than ever before will now invest in the REALTOR® PAC. READ MORE »

Property Tax Review? Client with an Assessor’s Letter?

Repeatedly, staff at the Oregon Association of REALTORS® and local associations from around the state are hearing stories of sellers being assessed back property taxes for “omitted property” due at point of sale. Sometimes the letters are confusing and have reportedly come at inconvenient times, adding complexity to a transaction. Actions of the counties in assessing property taxes is governed by State Statute. As such, OAR's government affairs team is undertaking a process of evaluating the issue and reviewing state statute for potential remedies. At this time, we are seeking real-world stories of a seller or buyer who has had this experience. Was the situation resolved? How? Did the deal fall apart because of sudden taxes due? READ MORE »

Call for Action: Stop the Housing Tax for Transportation

Congress is considering a proposal that would create a tax on all potential homeowners and consumers looking to purchase or refinance a mortgage. By increasing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s credit risk guarantee fees (g-fees) to fund transportation programs, Congress would disturb the housing recovery. Now is not the time to raise the cost to purchase or refinance a home. NAR strongly believes that taxing homeowners to pay for transportation programs places an unnecessary long-term burden on consumers and this action will disproportionately impact low and moderate income borrowers, as well as first-time homebuyers. Tell Congress to stop taxing homeowners to fund transportation projectsTake Action Now

A judge from the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals has temporarily halted implementation of the EPA's Clean Water Plan to expand the government’s environmental regulatory jurisdiction over bodies of waters. NAR continues to seek legislation to set criteria for determining which waters are to be considered under federal jurisdiction and which are not.

Congratulations, OAR REALTOR® of the Year!

One of the highest state REALTOR® association honors was bestowed upon Eva Sanders (Meadows Group – Portland) on September 30, 2015 when she was presented with the REALTOR® of the Year award. As the award was a surprise, Eva almost didn’t even make it to her own luncheon after the historic Board of Directors meeting in which she played such an important role in the RPAC vote. Thanks to her local association executive, however, she was coaxed into attending after all and was pleasantly surprised to see so many of her agents, friends, and family there to honor her. Eva continues to go above and beyond in her service to the Association and this award is well-deserved. Congratulations!
