PUBLIC POLICY

Call for Action Huge Success!

Over the past month, nearly 2,400 Oregon REALTORS® took action to oppose utilizing Fannie Mae’s and Freddie Mac’s credit risk guarantee fees (g-fees) as a source of funding for the extension of federal transportation programs.  From texting to email campaigns to peer-to-peer phone calls, you helped make this the most successful Call for Action in NAR history!  Better yet, as a result of your efforts and those of your colleagues around the state and country, the House recently voted to strip an increase in the fees charged by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac from the transportation bill. While this is a significant victory, the fight is not over.

With just a few days left before the government’s authority to spend money from the Highway Trust Fund expires, the House bill must still be reconciled with a similar Senate bill before it can be signed into law, so we must keep the pressure on.  How can this legislation potentially impact you and your clients? READ MORE »

NAR Convention Recap: Free Forms Benefit from NAR

Form

Free forms and advocacy successes were just two of the highlights from Monday’s NAR Board of Directors meeting which closed out the 2015 REALTORS® Conference & Expo in San Diego. Most significantly to all members, the approved partnership between NAR and zipLogix® will provide a national forms and transaction management benefit to all NAR members beginning in 2016. You can check out the NAR article & fact sheet on the subject, but also know that the Oregon implications are still being worked out. While NAR will be subsidizing the cost of the software platform, this is only a portion of the cost of your OREF forms. The OREF Board of Managers is meeting on Monday to determine what impact this will have for Oregon REALTORS® and how it will be implemented. Look for more information from OREF directly in the coming weeks.

Details on FHA Condo Rule Easing

fha

FHA has eased its  lengthy and complex condominium recertification process, a change NAR has been calling for, as part of an effort to make condo financing more widely available. Other changes were made to  owner-occupancy requirements and limits on the types of property insurance that are considered acceptable coverage under FHA’s rules. The changes were announced at the 2015 REALTORS® Conference & Expo in San Diego last week and take effect immediately.

Well, we thought you might ask. So, we made this short video to explain it all and help you to understand the value of why we’re stronger together by all pitching in.

Just this week, the OAR office pulled the trigger on its long-awaited transition from a LAMPS to RAMCO member database. What does this mean to you? Hopefully not much other than a seamless transition and more efficient and accurate accounting of your information which will interact with the NAR database as well. This change has been a long time coming but will hopefully all be behind-the-scenes to you. As with any change, there will be unplanned hiccups. Please be patient with us as we work through the initial learning curve and work out any bugs to make this a successful upgrade for you.
