Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Debra Gisriel

As another year comes to an end, I want to take this opportunity to personally thank 2015 OAR President Colin Mullane for his leadership and a very successful year. Thank you, Colin!

As we look forward to 2016, we have a very busy year ahead. Advocacy will be my number one priority on your behalf. I will be reaching out to each of you to help protect private property rights and to fight onerous regulation and legislation that impacts both homeownership and our business.

As the holiday season is upon us, please take the time to enjoy family and friends, be thankful for the freedoms we enjoy, pray for our country, love and embrace your family, and always have an attitude of gratitude!

It's a win for the entire real estate industry!

Both houses of Congress successfully reached an agreement on a multi-year highway reauthorization bill that was ultimately signed into law. The bill, which originally included a controversial provision to utilize Fannie Mae’s and Freddie Mac’s credit risk guarantee fees (g-fees) was stripped from the bill and never made it to the president’s desk.

Prior to the vote, an unprecedented 2,500 REALTORS® throughout the state made their voices heard by utilizing NAR’s Call-for-Action program to deploy letters to our congressional members urging them to oppose the utilization of g-fees to fund new roads. From texting to email campaigns to peer-to-peer phone calls, you made this one of our most successful Call for Actions in OAR history.

We look forward to working together with you to take our advocacy and community outreach efforts to an even higher level in 2016. If you have not already signed up to receive a short text message when a legislative call-for-action is launched, text the word REALTORS to 30644. LEARN MORE »

Foreign Investment Heating Up

CIPS logo

If you went to the OAR Convention, you heard Elliot Eisenberg, PhD expound on the economic trends in the market. He’s at it again with what’s happening with foreign investment:

“While the Chinese economy is cooling, Chinese buyers are pouring into US real estate. In 2015, their $30 billion in purchases will equal all purchases by Canadians, Indians, Mexicans, and the British, the next four most popular nationalities. Chinese buyers also account for the most number of transactions with 16% of foreign purchases, followed by Canadians at 14%. The most popular state for Chinese purchases: California by a country mile.”

The international investment wave is coming! California is ground zero but Oregon is probably looking pretty attractive, too. Are you ready to service international clients? Get the Certified International Property Specialist designation this Feb. in Portland to set yourself apart from the competition with these savvy buyers. READ MORE »

OAR Convention to Return in 2016

conv and fall gov pic

A Presidential Task Force made up of REALTOR® members has determined that the success of the past three years of OAR Conventions has proven the value of the event. Thus, the OAR Convention will be returning in 2016! Tentative dates are the last week of September and the location is to be determined as we await final review of the venue proposals by the Task Force. An announcement with further details will be made in January.

Statewide Data Analytics Coming Soon

RPR Logo

All MLSs in Oregon have now given permission to release their REALTORS Property Resource® (RPR) dashboard data in summary form to OAR. This means we’ll be able to finally get a statewide look at market trends and pass those insights on to you, as well as the media and legislators. Stay tuned for more in the New Year.

Also, check out this method to select and sort your way to RPR's enhanced school search and report. The new report features give you increased opportunities to impress your clients with one of the single most important factors to families in buying a home: the school district in which it resides. OREF Updates

OREF Letter Image

The NAR Board of Directors last month approved a partnership with zipLogix to provide all REALTORS® with zipForm Plus® and zipTMS as a free member benefit ($10 value) for the next three years. That’s great news! However, this is just the forms software, not the forms themselves. Every state has development costs to deliver a robust forms library powered by software platforms like zipLogix zipForm Plus®; Oregon is no exception. Now, OREF is passing on this $10 savings to our valued subscribers by reducing the annual subscription price from $99 to $89.

NAR Director Convention Reports

NAR Conference & Expo

A group of your fellow members represented you and Oregon at the NAR Convention & Governance Meetings in San Diego last month. They are your NAR Directors meaning they are voting members of the national Board of Directors. Since they travel at the expense of the Association, they are each responsible for reporting back on their time at the conference CLICK HERE to see what information they brought back this time. *Any reports not yet provided will be distributed in the Jan. e-News.

Class Registration & CE Certificate Retrieval Changes

In order to improve member services, we have recently upgraded to a new member database (RAMCO). We’ve been working through the learning curve and feel we’re well on our way to making this the much improved tool we were hoping for. There are a few key tasks, however, like registering for a class or retrieving your CE certificate, that look a little different. So we wanted to walk you through how to do this in the new system. State Life Service Award

Since state dues have increased by $50, we’ve noticed that many more people are making applications for a State Life Service Award. This award is service based and is different than the NAR Emeritus Status which, until just this year, was based on time in the profession. Even that has changed now, requiring a year of service at the national level. Please take note of the criteria for each award before submitting an application so as to reduce processing time and increase likelihood of approval by the Executive Committee should you meet all the requirements. HOME Foundation Grants Awarded

HOME Foundation Logo

Thanks to several highly successful fundraising events in 2015, the HOME Foundation just awarded $165,000 in grants to 32 community nonprofit organizations dedicated to affordable housing through the state! This brings the total grants awarded to over $925,000 since the program’s inception in 2004. The HOME Foundation is the nonprofit arm of the Oregon Association of REALTORS® which provides financial resources to create, expand, and encourage homeownership opportunities for Oregonians at or below local median income. Money raised comes directly from members and industry affiliates who reach deep into their pockets each year to help their fellow Oregonians. Thanks for coming through again in this season of giving! This is something to be really proud of. READ MORE »
