February 2016

Debra Gisriel

Leadership & Collaboration in February

One of three key initiative areas of our strategic plan is Leadership Development. I recently had the honor and privilege to spend three days with our 2016 Oregon Leadership Academy students at their first of three educational retreats. What a great group of REALTORS®! They were excited, energized, and eager to learn as much as they can about leadership and how our Associations function. The instruction was PhD level content taught by our CEO Dr. John Wallace and Dr. Dail Fields, both experts in the field of leadership. I look forward to spending time with this group and watching them grow in their knowledge and become the future leaders of our state and local Associations. If this is something of interest to you, contact Jennifer Collins at OAR and she can provide you with information and how to apply for the 2017 Leadership Academy.

I also had the pleasure to chair the Business Issues Key Committee’s Industry Forum in Portland earlier this month. Representatives from a broad section of our industry met to collaborate on issues that are affecting our business. It was attended by REALTOR® leaders from around the state as well as representatives from the appraisal, title, lending, and legal segments of our industry. We discussed many issues including TRID, appraisal matters, marijuana impact on real estate, etc. To view the full report, click here. Advocacy is our number one priority and meetings like the industry forum are one way we stay in touch with our members and get your input on those issues important to you and your business.

Get Ready to Get REALTOR®

NAR launched the new Get REALTOR® advertising campaign earlier this month, showcasing REALTOR® brand value to consumers. Get REALTOR® aims to “redefine the R” for current and future generations of home buyers, sellers, and real estate investors. We want to build REALTOR® brand awareness and drive consideration of REALTORS®, particularly among Millennials and in today’s hyper-connected world. Social content, digital banners, radio ads, and media content partnerships launched Feb. 8 and “House Off” :30 second videos will launch in a targeted digital buy on February 22. Have questions? Many are probably answered here. If not, contact us.

Social Media

In tandem with the Get REALTOR® campaign launch, NAR's @REALTORS handles on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram will now focus on consumer content, helping expose more consumers to the REALTOR® brand and giving members easy access to social content that you can share with your clients. NAR’s main member-facing social channels will migrate to @NARdotREALTOR. Follow @NARdotREALTOR on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Your Snapchat to Clients: A Must-Save?

Two courts have ruled on record retention when using sites like Snapchat and Wickr — which vaporize messages after they're sent — to speak with clients. That's a top story in the latest The Voice for Real Estate. Also, an NAR lab looks at smart-home devices, and a grim safety reminder.
