Appraisal Crisis - Part 2

The response to last month’s President’s message outlining the problem Oregon REALTORS® are experiencing with a shortage of real estate appraisers was overwhelming.


I want to thank everyone that provided us with so many actual and specific examples of appraisal situations.  It is clear from those examples that our clients and customers are being harmed by this crisis.


It is important that you know that OAR is certainly making this a priority issue and is working on behalf of the consumer and you, our members, to achieve relief. 


Our Government Affairs Director, Shawn Cleave, has been tracking concerns expressed by our members, state legislators and members of our congressional delegation since the close of the 2015 legislative session. READ MORE »


No on Measure 97

With only 51 days until the 2016 general election, your mailbox is probably filling up with flyers on both sides of the many issues that will be on the ballot this year. As you may know from a previous newsletter, the OAR Board of Directors voted this Spring to join a coalition to oppose Measure 97 (formerly Initiative Petition 28), the $5 million tax on Oregon sales. New Court Ruling Limits Historic Designation Statute

The Oregon Supreme Court has narrowed property owners' options for removing their historic designation. The Court's Aug. 4 decision allows only the original property owner to request that the local government remove the historic designation; subsequent owners cannot make such a request. READ MORE »

HOME Foundation Taste of Portland Raises Over $50,000!

9th Annual Taste of Portland

A great time was had by all at the 9th annual HOME Foundation Taste of Portland on Sept. 8 at The Castaway in Portland. A very popular event again this year, a wide variety of members and affiliates ate, drank, and made merry to raise money for your non-profit which gives grants to organizations working on affordable housing issues in your communities. This year’s event raised over $50,000 which was over $10,000 more than last year! We’re excited to report that we’re on track to surpass the $1 Million mark in grants awarded this year since the HOME Foundation began just over 10 years ago. OAR Committee Selection Process

Get Involved

If you submitted your application to be on a 2017 OAR Committee by the Aug. 5 deadline, here’s what happens next. The selection committee meets on Aug. 25 to review the applications and make appointments based on available spots and best fit for each committee program area. From there, confirmation letters will be sent out to selected members in the week of Aug. 31. Good luck and thank you for your interest in serving your Association!
