2015 FPC News

Dear ,

http://www2.realtoractioncenter.com/images/content/pagebuilder/28022.gif Housing Lottery Open for May Meetings

You all should have received an email earlier this week notifying you that the housing lottery is now open for the NAR Realtor Legislative Meetings and Trade Expo, taking place May 15-20, 2017. NAR has blocked rooms for attendees at 15 other hotels in Washington, DC. However, demand for rooms at the two Headquarter Hotels – the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel and Omni Shoreham Hotel – exceeds the number of rooms available. In order to assign rooms at these hotels as conveniently and equitably as possible, NAR uses a housing lottery system.

If you would like to try for a room at one of the headquarter hotels, please register and take advantage of the opportunity afforded you as FPC to participate in the lottery system. The hotel lottery will close January 27 at 5:00pm CST.

Hotel Lottery Registration

One entry per person. All lottery entrants will receive an email by Feb. 6 notifying them of their lottery status.

President’s Circle launched its first round of targets for 2017 to President’s Circle members earlier this month. During this round, President’s Circle members may invest $500 in one of the four national party committees in honor of any Member of Congress. FPCs have the option of contributing $500 directly to the Member of Congress they serve as FPC. (An FPC must choose either a $500 contribution to their Member of Congress OR a National Party Committee – they cannot do both).

Did you know 168 FPCs are already 2017 President’s Circle members (up from 147 last year)? That’s 31% of you who are taking advantage of this unique opportunity! You further strengthen the REALTOR® Party beyond what we can do with RPAC dollars alone by investing directly in the Member of Congress you serve as FPC.

The Supreme Court has agreed to take up the dispute over which lower courts have jurisdiction to hear challenges to the Obama administration's Clean Water Rule. The Court will reconsider the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals' decision to hear legal challenges over the rule, which is also known as Waters of the U.S., or WOTUS. More than 30 states and many industry and farm groups, including NAR, have challenged the joint U.S. EPA-Army Corps of Engineers rule redefining what waterways and wetlands receive protection under the Clean Water Act. …… Read More

Last week, the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) announced it would reduce FHA annual mortgage insurance premiums (MIP) by 25 basis points. This reduction is a victory for the National Association of REALTORS® whose members have called for lower fees on FHA loans given the ongoing strength of the Mutual Mortgage Insurance Fund, which exceeded the required reserve ratio for the second year in a row. We are now accepting nominations for the 2016 Meritorious Service Award. Each year, NAR recognizes two outstanding Federal Political Coordinators for their exceptional service to the National Association of REALTORS® with this esteemed award. These recipients will be the best of the best of our FPCs, those who truly believe in and advocate on behalf of the REALTOR® Party. Recipients meet a rigorous set of criteria that set them apart from other FPCs.  To see a list of criteria for the MSA award click here.

The Meritorious Service Award nomination form is now online through the Realtor Action Center. For more information about the MSA award and process, please contact Victoria Givens at vgivens@realtors.org.

Tips of the Trade

This Week: How To File a Field Report

Field reports are a very important part of the FPC duties. These reports provide valuable information to NAR on the issues important to the real estate industry and help us make the most out of the important work you are doing in the district.  The reports provide necessary information to the NAR grassroots team, lobbyists and policy staff that we may not have previously been aware. You are the ones on the ground and usually the first to know if a Member has changed his or her mind on an issue or perhaps is co-sponsoring a piece of legislation critical to our public policy goals.

If you have been struggling with how to file your field report, the following tips will help you navigate the process step by step.

  • Go to: www.realtoractioncenter.com/realtors/fpc/fpc-field-reports. Or you can just click HERE.
  • In the box that says “Search Legislators,” type in your Member of Congress’ last name and click on the Member of Congress’ last name.
    • This will bring up the Member of Congress information as well as your information as the FPC. Please make sure all of your information is correct and then click “confirm.”  This will then bring up the field reporting form.
  • Enter the date of the interaction you had with your Member of Congress.
  • Choose the type of interaction from the drop down menu.  This could be an event, in person meeting, phone call etc.
  • Fill in your field report information in the box. Please describe the conversation you had with your Member of Congress and any Realtor® issues that came up. It is especially important to note if your Member of Congress agreed with the NAR position or if they disagreed.
  • If you are only filing one field report, click “Submit Note.”  If you will be filing additional field reports, click on the choice “Submit Note & Create New.”

It’s that simple!  You’ve just filed a field report!  And, you’ll notice that the report is in the system almost immediately. If you have any questions please reach out to Victoria Givens at vgivens@realtors.org or (202)383-1021

*If you are filing a field report for a Member of Congress other than your own assigned Member (say you filled in for that FPC at a meeting he or she was unable to attend), you can still file the report.  Simply click on “Choose Other FPC” and enter your name and email address in the box.  Then continue with steps 4 and 5.
